Our Favorite Eggnog

Eggnog is something I have always loved and having our own #familymilkcow makes it really convenient to make delicious homemade eggnog with out all the junk. I usually make a big batch since it seems to disappear rather quickly in our home!

✨Homemade Eggnog ✨

8 cups milk

1 cup sugar

6 egg yolks

1/2 tsp salt

  • First put the milk in a pot on the stove a start to warm up, I have scaled it before or just gotten it up in the 80s, both make great eggnog!

  • Next get your stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment and add the egg yolks, sugar and salt. You want to put the mixer on high and whip it until its pale and stiff.

  • Then you are going to bring your bowl of whipped eggs/salt/sugar over to your milk that has been heating up. Take a measuring cup of ladle and add a spoonful of the milk to the egg mixture at a time. While you do this make sure you stir the egg mixture so the milk does not cook the egg.

  • Once you have about half the milk into the bowl add all the egg/milk mixture to the pot on the stove and cook for 5 min.

  • From here either leave the eggnog on the stove to cool for several hours (this results in thicker eggnog) Or transfer it to the fridge to cool.

  • Once cooled Vanilla and nutmeg to taste

-optional- save whites to whip and make once eggnog has cooled to go on top!

If you make it be sure to tag me so I can see! Thanks for stopping by the blog!
