Don’t ask how many times I’ve made this for the family this week 🙈 I used to be intimidated by bagels, I didn’t want to try and fail but really they aren’t that hard! Just don’t over complicate it (saying this to myself too 😉) We made homemade cream cheese to go with it, delicious!
✨ 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐞 ✨
1/2 cup active sourdough starter
1 cup filtered water (𝘐 𝘢𝘥𝘥 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘥)
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons salt
4 full cups flour (𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 “𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺” 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘵)
✨Mix in stand mixer or by hand
✨Put into a bowl and let it rise 8ish hours
-Divide into 8 balls
-Shape into bagels 🥯
-Place them on a baking sheet covered in parchment paper
-Let them rise about an hour
✨ Boil a pot with about 6 cups water and a tablespoon of honey- 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐈 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐚 𝐩𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟𝐰𝐚𝐲 🙌🏻
-Place the bagels in the water 2-3 at a time
-Boil 2 min each side (𝘰𝘳 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥, 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺, 𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘵)
-Egg wash the bagels
✨Bake at 425 for 25- 30 min, enjoy! ✨
